My Students

The students at Canyon Spring's School are tomorrow's engineers! Our school is focused on the STEM Model and have dedicated days each month where we do STEM activities. Our student's know that they are preparing a futuristic skillset for jobs that do not even exist yet. In 4th grade student's switch classes for ELA, Math, and Science/SS.

The student's who come to my class begin the year thinking they are just fulfilling their math needs for the 4th grade but in reality they are learning to problem solve, engineer, create, explore, and justify their thinking.

My students walk out excited and confident with their ability to attack any problem!

My Project

Maker Stations highlight the importance of being creative, building, problem solving, and trying new things. Our students already have a strong foundation of STEM skills that they get to manipulate each month on designated STEM days. These little engineers are ready to take STEM in to their everyday work.

A designated Maker Space will allow for constructing, exploring, experimenting, and creating in an environment where students feel comfortable to fail and learn from their peers.

We have already established a community of problem solvers and this project will give them the tools and supplies necessary to act on their ideas. Students will have the opportunity to choose the Maker Station as a place to create and work on their ideas and creations.

Most of the items are reusable and will impact the lives of students year after year. In our Maker Station students will exercise their engineering skills with the Lego, and K'Nex kits. They will work in teams to problem solve and practice coding skills using the Robot Turtle Game, Snap Circuits and Zoob STEM Challenge sets. Makey Makey will allow students to bring their inventions to life by turning everyday objects into interactive tools that connect to the internet for programming. My creative and artsy engineers will be able to utilize the colored duct tape, origami paper, and rubber bands to craft their own designs and learn new techniques. The safety goggles and tool kits are to allow builders to safely take apart and engineer electronics and toys to really see how things work. Finally, the few books on our wishlist are to help bring to life all the possibilities of engineering and inventing, to help inspire the variety of learners, and to give them new ideas to try.
