My students are very special because they live in an urban neighborhood that has a ton of mobility. The students are from low poverty families and do not have a lot of experiences outside of their neighborhood. Our school is one of the oldest schools in our district but was remodeled and enlarged 6 years ago. We even have our playground on the roof as we have no green space around our school. We also participate in a fresh fruit and vegetable program at our school, with 100% of our students eligible for free textbooks, breakfast, and lunch. Our school has an after-school program that is extremely popular, run by a local church/nonprofit organization.
My Project
My students need to have glue sticks so that we can create different projects throughout the year. My students are very creative when they have access to materials. Having the colored painter's tape will help our students to be organized with their notebooks and the computer cart. I will also be able to use the painter's tape to create rectangles on our floor in the hallway for area and perimeter practice. Having the fadeless paper allows our learning to pop with color. We use the paper to create covers for projects, border our awesome work that we hang up on the bulletin board, and to create individual rulers for our measurement unit.
Having these materials help our scholars be creative on a daily basis.
They also have the opportunity to have hands-on learning during our measurement unit.
