Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a diverse population of students from around our county. We have an enrollment of 41% free or reduced price lunch, and our special population is significantly higher than the average in our area.

Our students work collaboratively in small teams and do work on projects that are integrated between disciplines, grade levels, and teachers.

We believe that mixing students, teachers, and subjects is a vital path toward real-world/authentic work.

Our students are asked to work diligently. Projects stretch across semesters and often connect to authentic needs from our community.

My Project

My students are incredible thinkers, creators, and reflectors. They take on challenges that face the real world with grit, positivity, and a lens for social and environmental justice.

This project will ask them to float portions of the Colorado River and create a field guide made of short documentary films focusing on the environmental, political and public health dilemmas facing the Colorado River watershed and the entire southwestern United States of America.

Students will use these books during literature circles to grow their individual and our group understandings and the Fujinon binoculars to spot wildlife, flora, and interesting geological items along the way.
