My Project

I see children in grades 4 and 5 on a daily basis for social emotional learning and counseling sessions. They struggle with emotion regulation, empathy and interacting with peers in a positive manner. In an effort to give our students a chance to voice what tools they think will help them improve in these areas, I have them complete a reflection and suggestion sheet after each individual or group session on topics such as social skills, emotion management and friendship skills. I ask for suggestions about what they would like to see in the school's counseling center that would make their dreams come true. After sifting through suggestions like a soda machine or a pony, students indicated they want more interactive items such as games to be social and play with peers, character education books to learn about how to manage their emotions, and kinetic sand and crafting supplies to serve as self-regulation and calming tools. They have requested sheet protectors to display their completed art therapy projects in a binder. They play, meditate and practice calming yoga strategies on the floor most days so they also desire a strong vacuum cleaner to clean our super dirty rug. Please help me help them.
