Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from a low-income and high needs area in the Bronx. They are of diverse cultures and speak a variety of languages at home. A large problem with lower level learners is that they sometimes feel discouraged and give up easily. I want to give these students an opportunity to succeed and to feel good about learning.
I try my best to make learning fun for my students, while also trying to make material relatable to their lives.
My Project
These books will help my students foster a love of reading. Coming back to school after the pandemic has been tough. Lots of kids are below level in reading and/or find it boring. Students also are more familiar with reading on a tablet instead of reading actual books. As we build student stamina and confidence, it is important to have a diverse library, giving the kids options of books they actually want to read and can get excited about. My 3rd graders will love these new additions to our library. These new texts are colorful, recent, and relevant and can grab the attention of my students.
