My Students

My students come to me for Reading intervention. I work with about 30 students from kindergarten- 2nd grade to improve their fluency and comprehension on a daily basis.

We are a small, rural PK- 2nd grade school in SE Ohio.

There around 220 students. We have a high rate of unemployment in our area and every student in our building receives free breakfast and lunch daily. We are from a very low socioeconomic area.

My students need a place to feel comfortable and enjoy curling up with a good book!

My Project

These materials will help me to incorporate the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading to my students. There are many tactile and other multi sensory methods that give students different ways of learning.

These materials will make this program successful in my classroom.

I am requesting sand and sand trays for students to trace letters and words. There are also readers for the students to practice their reading.

The Orton-Gillingham approach uses a multi sensory method of teaching. Part of that involves colors as well. The red and green crayons will be used in emphasizing different words. These will be used as a classroom set.
