Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are PreK students ages 3-5 with and without disabilities in a small early childhood center in Boston. We have 8 classrooms with approximately 180 students, and our budget for materials is only $500 for the coming school year. All of our PreK classrooms (1/2 of the 8 classrooms) are in need of rest mats, and unfortunately, they cost $50 each and we just can’t afford them.
Our current rest mats have seen better days; many are held together with duct tape so that they don’t fall completely apart.
Often students have been caught playing with fistfuls of foam that they pulled out of a hole in the mat. This is especially scary with students who put non-edibles in their mouths. I know this is a big ask, but we really need 80 new rest mats for our 4 prek classes next year.
