My Students
81% of the students from my school received free and reduced lunches and are culturally diverse and eager to learn how to read, write, do the math, and steam.
My students are culturally diversifying with eagers to be creative, to use their imaginations, to go on an adventurous through the lens of learning, and the inspirations of becoming awesome readers and writers.
To know where the dreams can take them is the most valuable motivation for them to accomplish something enthusiastic is the most robust learning skill a student can achieve.
My Project
My students must be able to read by the end of the year. Although they have been in school since the beginning of the year, they missed so much learning time due to constant quarantine that they needed the extra boost to gain interest and have the ability to read.
Many of the students wanted to become competent in reading but struggled due to phonemic awareness.
They would pick up a book and pretend to read the words by looking at the pictures. They cannot read if they do not know the letters and sounds. As a guided reading teacher, I would like to enhance students' motivation to learn phonemic awareness through hands-on alphabet letters and sounds. Once the students master phonic awareness using hands-on activities, they can decode the words in a sentence through the appropriate books of the student's reading level.
After gaining this knowledge, they can find the most suitable level books of their interest. Books, I believe, will open their eyes and doors to expand their imaginations beyond anything.
