Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are curious and compassionate critical thinkers. As students attending a design themed magnet school, each and every one of my students astounds me with their creativity. Just take a look at the back wall of my classroom, filled with their beautiful "I Am From" poems and collages, or even look at the ways they personalize their uniform attire every day.
I teach a group of future animators, chemists, fashion designers and doctors.
As a first year educator, I feel lucky, humbled, and grateful to be the English teacher to this wonderful seventh grade class. Their imaginations are active and swirling with possibility and capacity to imagine real solutions to contemporary problems. I wish to hone their creative spirits by infusing my curriculum with learning opportunities that are hands-on, collaborative, and design-oriented with a social justice lens. I aim to provide them with the tools and resources necessary to learn, grow, and pursue their interests through literacy in the fulfillment of their fullest potential.
My Project
Donations towards these materials will provide soft seating options for students to read and write comfortably as they grow their love for reading writing. Donations will pave the way to showcase and preserve their written work.
Headphones will allow students to work at their own pace, which is especially necessary in an English classroom where students have varied reading levels.
A class set will allow me to differentiate my instruction as I use blended learning in the classroom. In order for students to interact with multiple text types (print, video, audio, visual), they must have access to engage with these texts at their own speed and rate of processing.
And of course, a class set of whiteboards will help make my lessons engaging and interactive.
