I teach Technology and Media Arts to K-8 students in a Creative & Performing Arts Academy. Our K-5th grade students learn a variety of art disciplines, including Dance, Drama, Visual Art, Music, and (Digital) Media Arts. Our 6th-8th grade students select a major to focus on for three years, where they routinely complete college level assignments.
The goal of my curriculum is to place real-world creative skills in the hands of my students.
We are a public school, but a magnet program. K-5 students are selected via a lottery. 6th-8th grade students audition for placement into their major.
Most of the computers in our lab are great for surfing the web, editing photos, and taking standardized tests, but when it comes to editing HD video we need something with a bit more power under the hood. Modern video editing software requires 64 bit processors, and unfortunately few our computers have those.
Funding this project will allow us to replace one of our aging 32 bit computers with a more modern machine, allowing more students to edit video projects.
The replaced computer will be refurbished and given to another class in the building, so this project will actually result in helping two classrooms instead of one.
