My Students
Our school is one with a diverse student population. Our students have challenges to meet each and every day. These challenges include poverty, homelessness and disrupted family structure. We need to meet the needs of these students which includes giving them food items to bring home. It has been our dream to start a non perishable food bank to compliment our fresh food initiative through our expanding garden production.
We would like to provide additional pantry goods such as canned items, boxed items and proteins to cook with the fresh fruit and vegetables we supply from our gardens to prepare a healthy, nourishing meal for the families at home.
We already have started a cooking program at our school which we wish to sustain throughout the remainder of the year. Students will be able to prepare hot foods, cold items and salads which can be brought home to families eager to have an extra meal or snack at home.
My Project
During our cooking program, we will be able to send home prepared meals with hot/cold foods, salads and appetizers. These items will make families have the ability to have extra snacks and complete meals for many of our neighbors and community members who can not get enough to eat.
Hunger is a major issue in our neighborhood and we want to eliminate this challenge to many who look for help with having healthy, nutritional items to eat at home.
We plan on using our supplies to create a Meals-We Know How Hunger Feels program to help as many people as possible especially our students.
