I teach kindergarten in a small, milltown public school. My kindergartners come from various backgrounds and each one brings in their own "funds of knowledge." They are inquisitive, creative, and compassionate. We strive to create a community of learners with the building blocks of being safe, respectful and responsible.
We come to school each day ready to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
We are lucky to have support within our district that supports an age-appropriate learning environment. When you walk into my room it might look like play...but we are learning in everything that we do.
My Project
My goal is to connect students and their families through fun engaging math book bags. These math book bags have great discussion questions and activities that will make math fun for both the parents and child. These book bags will go home with the students on Monday. During the week families can read these great books to their child, use the discussion questions to facilitate, and then do the fun activity suggestions to practice their math skills.
Through rich and diverse literature, my students and their families will be able to see themselves as mathematicians and the relevance of math in our everyday life.
Besides being a kindergarten teacher I am also the early learning math and equity representative and my hope is to one day bring these book bags into all of our kindergarten rooms.
