This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are located in the heart of a large, urban neighborhood. The total minority enrollment is 90%, the majority of them of Hispanic ethnicity (71.0%). 87% of the student body is economically disadvantaged, determined by students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
They are curious, creative, and yearning for more knowledge.
Our school prides itself in giving them opportunities to shine in the visual and performing arts, media, and social justice and humanities projects, and giving them the tools needed to be college and career-ready. These students always give their all when they are given the opportunities to be more successful in their future. As a math teacher, I wish to provide them a variety of opportunities that will encourage them to pursue their interests in STEAM-related fields and to continue to have a love and appreciation for math in the world.
My Project
My students love being able to see mathematics in a variety of ways in order to comprehend them. These materials will allow them to engage in understanding trigonometric proofs in a hands-on approach by using compasses and other tools and manipulatives. They will be able to build their knowledge and reflect on their understanding in their interactive notebooks.
With your support, my students will be able to have multiple points of access toward learning mathematics.
Students need help with viewing Algebra, Trigonometry, and Precalculus as interconnected topics. Analyzing these mathematical concepts in a visual way, as well as reflecting on their own sense-making through writing and group discussions, help them make those connections.
