Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach math and science in a third grade classroom at a public school located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of upper Manhattan. All of my students come into the classroom from low-income homes and receive free or reduced lunch. My students currently do not have access to technology, except for the computer lab that we visit once a week. Technology is important in our world today, and it is also engaging for students.

Inspiring my students to learn with a hands-on, engaging environment is the mission in the classroom.

My students are avid mathematicians and scientists who are motivated, enthusiastic, curious, and excited to learn. Like most children, our students love having hands-on experiences with technology. There are many things that my students cannot do, because they do not have access to their own tablet or laptop. There are some students who probably do not have access to any technology besides the technology that they use at school. I want all of my students to be able to have access to technology.

My Project

There are many different things that we could do in the classroom if we had a set of Kindle Fire tablets. Having a Kindle Fire will allow my students to access so much more during their math workshop. Some examples of the apps they could use are IXL, XtraMath, GoMath, and SkoolBo. In addition to apps, I can also create QR codes for Math practice during their Math Workshops or have them research different Science concepts for projects.

By donating to this project, you will ensure that my students have open access to technology every day at school!

You will be giving a third grade child an experience that they wouldn't have at their home. My students will get to learn how to be fluent in technology, and I will be able to design more engaging and rigorous lessons.
