This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Imagine the children of our school immersed in the rich tradition of mariachi music – learning not just an art form, but a cultural experience that builds teamwork, confidence, and a love of music. Providing authentic musical instruments, such as guitars and vihuelas, will expose these young learners to this vibrant, traditional music style, helping them connect with their own and their classmates' heritage. 66% of the students at our school are Hispanic. By starting a mariachi program here, we will provide these children with the opportunity to develop musical skills, celebrate our community, and connect with a centuries-old tradition that spans generations.
The student musicians come from 88% economically disadvantaged situations, with 85% minority student enrollment.
