My Students

Do you remember when you learned to read? Did it come easy for you? Did you struggle to learn to read? Did you have lots of books to read at home? Did your parents take you to the library often?

At our school, we have students that come from all walks of life.

Some have great support at home and lots of access to books. While others do not. They are often not exposed to print at a young age. Some come to school with no pre-school experiences. Others have very limited English language skills. Many do not have books in their homes.

I teach basic literacy skills to students from kindergarten to fourth grade. Many are below or well-below grade-level expectations. Through small group interventions, we work together to master the "Big 5 of Reading" identified by the National Reading Panel.

My Project

When teaching basic literacy skills, it can become rote and boring but by including engaging materials students will enjoy learning to read. They will get exposure to quality learning activities. In small intervention groups, students will have opportunities to work independently and as partners to practice phonics using Phonics Word Match, fluency using Splash games, and comprehension using comprehension kits.
