My Students

The city of Meridian, Idaho sets a small stage for my 2nd grade students. Living in a small town, day to day life can get pretty mundane, but that does not mean that our learning has to be.

Classroom transformations bring instant student engagement and make learning feel like magic.

When you think of some of your happiest memories, they're probably from days where you veered from your everyday routine and did something different. And more likely than not, you weren't at school. I want to pull those special memories into our school day so that my students get excited for learning, can let their creativity shine, and can create days of enchantment that will make learning (and memories) stick with them throughout the year.

2nd graders are full of magic. With their imagination we can transform their learning and add so much more engagement to our lessons than a worksheet can offer.

My Project

This project will give students an entire year of classroom transformations. A classroom transformation is a themed day where the classroom is decorated, or transformed, to fit a theme and students have hands-on STEM and literacy activities to enhance our curriculum. The purpose is to make learning more engaging and by changing the physical appearance of the classroom there is more buy-in from the kids and they are more willing to believe in the narrative of the day because it's not another typical day in the classroom.

When your child comes home from school on a room transformation day and you ask what they learned, they definitely won't say, "Nothing." Your student will tell you about how school was so much fun with all of their out-of-the-box activities.

I believe that learning should be something for students to get excited about, and if changing up the appearance of our room and giving the day a theme is all it takes to make learning magic, then I'm up for it!
