This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I am a second year teacher, my first year I had 5 students who spoke different languages ( Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Haitian creole). As a first year teacher it was very hard to navigate this, I translated slides to give them access to the lessons, but communicating basic needs was a challenge. being from a different country and having to learn a new language and being expected to perform on grade level is hard, we utilized iPads, Google Classroom, etc., in order for those students to access the language and be able to communicate with peers. I am committed to getting these students to have a massive jump in foundational skills in literacy during the time they are in my class.
The supplies I requested will help give my students access to lessons and communication with peers and teachers.
I chose Pocketalk to be utilized in the classroom as well as during meetings for parents/guardians who do not speak English, with parent teacher conferences as well. Overall this will help our school give students and families peace of mind knowing that this is available for them to utilize.
