My students need magnetic shapes, magnetic color maze and other interactive, kinesthetic opportunities to learn remedial and grade level content.

My Students
My class is a self-contained class for young students with Autism. The curriculum is the standard curriculum for grade-level regular education students.
All of my students have developmental delays and communication deficits.
This makes it difficult for them to understand grade level standards or even the questions being asked of them. They learn best with concrete examples. They excel with learning opportunities that provide them with an opportunity to see what is expected. Their learning gains meaning when they are provided the opportunity to move and perform a task.
My Project
These interactive learning materials use magnets. Because of their autism, my students have sensory processing deficits. Feeling the items move and the weight of the magnet provide a sensory experience that will help them learn. Studies show that multi-modal learning is best for students with autism. These supplies provide visual and kinesthetic opportunities for learning.
Even though my class is exposed to the standard, regular education curriculum, many are lacking some basic, foundational knowledge such as color, shape, number and letter recognition.
Others do not have the fine motor control for writing but the magnetic words would be an accommodation that would help them with their writing.
