My Students
My students are a diverse group of kids with many different learning styles. Some students work best at tables, some like to sit and work alone. However, many of my students enjoy working in small groups and in an environment that allows them to have a flexible sitting arrangement. I love the way my students work together in collaborative groups and show ownership of their own learning when working independently. Each year students are asked to set academic goals for the year. I enjoy watching my students work hard to accomplish that goal.
My Project
This year the goal is to change the classroom environment from the traditional seating style to a more student-centered environment. Having flexible groups will allow students to make choices in their daily seating arrangement. To help students focus, my class need wobble chairs and bounce seat. As a 3rd and 4th grade math teacher, I noticed students at this age have a difficult time sitting still for a whole class period. Some kids just have to move! Their muscles are always active making it difficult for them to sit still for a long time or focus. Active learning stools can help students stay focused in the classroom and burn off some energy.
