My students are very special because they live in an urban neighborhood that has a ton of mobility. The students are from low poverty families and do not have a lot of experiences outside of their neighborhood. Our school is one of the oldest schools in our district but was remodeled and enlarged 6 years ago. We even have our playground on the roof as we have no green space around our school. We also participate in a fresh fruit and vegetable program at our school, with 100% of our students eligible for free textbooks, breakfast and lunch. Our school has an after school program that is extremely popular, run by a local church/nonprofit organization.
My Project
My students need 7" scissors for their bigger hands. We do a ton of cutting in our classroom so that we are working on our fine motor skills. We are also in need of pencils and cap erasers so that my students don't have to scramble to find something to write with on a daily basis.
Having the needed supplies helps my classroom run smoother everyday for the 180 days that we are in school.
Making it a point to have the supplies helps my students and my parents have a successful 3rd grade career. It helps us to prepare for the real world!
