Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a High School history teacher on the west side of Chicago and I service over 130 students. My students come from a depressed area of the city; 93% of them receive free lunch. With that said however, these students are an amazing group. Each fights his or her own turmoil outside of school and has the determination to succeed within the community of Michele Clark H.S. As a teacher, I try to make their experience in my classroom as fun and challenging as possible. I would love the chance to make history come alive for them! Have you ever read a history textbook? Let's just say, they're not the most exciting! I want to get my students' attention by developing a video library. Through video my students will learn not only facts, but they will also be able to better identify with history and historic persons. A video library will enhance my students' learning by making their textbook readings come to life. Now, just so you understand, my students will not simply watch video, they will interact with it, take part in critical analysis of it, and always write about the history they are learning! I hope you can help make the students' experience in my classroom a memorable one!
