Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children in my Title I preschool class are considered the most "at-risk" in our district. This year is crucial to their academic success.
Young children are eager to learn but often often lack crucial resources.
Our aim is to help children remain excited to learn.
Providing highly interesting materials and experiences that build on children's interest increase motivation. As children play and interact with others they develop the foundation for learning and interacting with others. We support and honor children's natural curiosity and are eager to see each child blossom into a confident learner. This is why we need a wide variety of materials that are appealing to young children. Each child develops their own gifts and capacities. A deep love of learning is at the heart of our mission.
My Project
Young children are learning to manage their emotions. First, they need to name them. These specially designed materials will help children begin name and understand. There are activities to encourage children to observe their feelings and talk about how each emotion feels in their bodies.
This is a critical time when children's brains are developing the ability to manage and regulate emotions.
Bag of buddies is used to help children understand that we all feel different emotions at different times. Blockheads are shown to the children as we talk about how each emotion feels in his/her body. Mirror Me cards show children in different situations that children can relate to. The talking points help guide children to discuss their own experiences with emotions. All of these materials are specifically designed to promote growth in the area of social/emotional development. Emotional literacy is one of the biggest predictors of lifelong happiness.
