My Students
My students are first graders who love engagement and learning with hands on activities. They have a strong desire to learn, tons of energy, and an enthusiasm for being at school that is inspiring. They are a diverse group of learners that come from all over the world and have many cultural backgrounds. My class also has a diverse group of learning needs and knowledge levels. In our class, we focus on kindness, hard work, and making a difference in our community. My school is a low income school and we come from an urban area of Salt Lake City, UT. Even though our families may not have a lot of money, they have a ton of charm and interest in learning. Our school is a wonderful community that makes a safe space and a welcoming environment for students of all ages.
My Project
I am a veteran teacher who was moved to first grade this year without a lot of resources or classroom tools. My students are energetic and love to play with hands on supplies, but I do not have enough funding to give those things to them. With the generous donations and assistance from Donors Choose, I can make their learning experience come alive. My kids will be able to take Math and Reading concepts, and model them with real life materials, which will make their learning more concrete. With these materials, I will set them up for the future, as these basic skills we learn in first grade are so essential for learning for years to come. I am hoping this project is fully funded so that my first graders have an amazing start to their educational careers!
