This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 1st grade at a fantastic urban school in a working class community. 100% of the students are on free or reduced lunch and most are English language learners. Nearly all of my students are native Spanish speakers. They are a great group of kids that are always eager to learn new things and share them with everyone they know.
On most days we have a few "extra" minutes before we go to recess or lunch. This is never enough time for a full-length lesson but it is too long to waste. It is my goal to make the most of every second my students are with me. Time is so precious!
I have discovered some fabulous games that are the perfect solution to this problem! They are called Wrap-Around games and they are used to review reading, vocabulary, and math skills in a very exciting format. The games involve all of the students and only take a few minutes. I know that my students would love playing the games and not even realize that they were reviewing important skills.
I want to make every minute count with my students. That means filling the day with fun and engaging activities that help them become lifelong learners. With your help, I will be able to fulfill this goal. I thank you in advance for your commitment to my students and their education.
