Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school physics and mathematics to a very diverse group of students. They elicit within me a range of feelings, but most importantly they motivate me to wake up in the morning and do the best job I can do for them. They are considerate, yet due to their youth, they are quick to judge and I find myself trying to make the best impression on them as possible. I know what I do and say makes a huge difference in the motivation they have in class.
Their malleability, their potential to learn and change, their energy, and the beauty of their youth charges in me passion to make a positive impact on their lives.
My Project
My students will engage in a coding, programming, and engineering project that incorporates art and creativity. They will design their own and create a 3-D lantern that blink and fade as programmed by the students. Students will determine the color of the LEDs they want to use for the lantern that we already have in our classrooms. Students will modify codes that they will download from the Arduino website. They will code different fading times and on and off times for their lights. They will have a manual button option to conserve battery life. By using the codes and interpreting the codes, they will learn the basics of programming language.
