My Project
My 6th graders are bright, curious learners who attend an arts magnet school. We are a Title I school in a low-income neighborhood where students are unable to provide their own supplies for school. As an arts-driven school, we strive to provide arts integration in all areas of academics to engage students and promote positive, tangible evidence of their learning and efforts.
In our upcoming science unit, we are learning about the human impact on the ocean and the climate, and how they are related.
Our lessons will lead us to learn about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. In our quest to learn more about how we can help protect the planet, we plan to make art out of trash that might otherwise end up in the ocean.
These supplies will help me provide the basics needed to make my students' creativity come alive as we discuss and celebrate the small steps we can each take to minimize our impact on the environment. This project, if funded, will allow me to give my students the basic arts supplies needed, while still letting them contribute their "trash" to turn into art.
