it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students’ situation is a tough one. I have students who often work so they can help their families. Some need to help babysit their siblings. With the pandemic affecting their home situation, hundreds of students came to the school site to get meals daily so they can have something to eat. Students were lent lab tops and hot spots so the tech wasn’t a big problem. The big issue is that I teach visual arts and most do not have the basic art supplies that they would need.
My Project
There is a lot I can do at home for my students’ learning. What I can’t do by myself is provide them the basic art materials they will need to foster creativity, critical thinking, and build problem solving skills. Kids have some stuff they can use, but that is not enough. During this tough time, students need a venue where they for a little bit, work on the other skills that make you a better well rounded person like the visual arts to inspire your creative thinking. Having these supplies would keep the students safe from sharing communal supplies and give them a sense of ownership of their artwork and own the process.
