My Project
New York City was hit especially hard during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many students spent time at home playing videos games alone. It was an escape from their daily life and a way to cope with living through a pandemic. We still have many students that would still rather stay home and play video games than go to school or hang out with their friends.
More students have become interested in learning more about eSports due to the success of our DonorsChoose project.
Due to this, I would like to request 2 additional controllers for our classroom and an additional 4 games.
The rise in popularity of eSports has created more young people whonow dream of playing video games at a professional level. By allowing them to develop their skills in middle school, their futures can be anything they put their mind to.
The lunchroom is often too loud for some students to focus and they dread going to lunch. By offering an eSports club or team, students can start to build relationships and community with the other students in their school. More exposure to video games will allow students to start picturing their perfect video. They can also start to learn game design so that when they enter high school they would be able to apply what they learned and not feel intimidated by the video game field.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
