Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first grade teacher at a fabulous urban Los Angeles elementary school. Most of my students are English Language Learners from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Several of them are in a Special Education class and spend half of the day with us. They are all amazing children with a passion to learn and a strong desire to do better.

Teaching students about patterns can be a daunting task without the right resources. Students get bored drawing patterns with paper and crayons. They need exciting manipulatives that will hook them into the lesson and ensure understanding of the concept.

The resources I have requested will do just that. The magnetic pattern cards can be used independently or with a partner and the different shaped magnets will definitely keep them engaged. The patterns rods can be used for practice or even as an informal assessment. The students will have so much fun using these new activities that they will forget they are learning!

Math can be very difficult for many students. They often loose interest if the concept doesn't make sense to them. That is why these kinds of resources are so important. With your help my students will be able to develop this skill and have fun while doing it. I thank you in advance for helping my students develop a love of learning.
