Help me give my students an opportunity to have 3 African drummers and 3 African dancers perform on February 28th on our campus to culminate Black History Month!

Do you remember when you attended your first culturally relevant assembly at school either on the playground or in the "big" auditorium as a child? Seeing a Mariachi band performing for Hispanic Heritage Month or African drummers and dancers performing for Black History Month made your eyes light up with pride and excitement.
Regrettably, a high percentage of the elementary student population has not been exposed to this type of cultural event at school!
A significant number of students at my school are coming from situations where they are homeless or in shelters. They are considered high risk, and many have foster youth backgrounds where they are moving from one foster home to the next.
Having first-hand experiences of being at an assembly and watching live performances create impactful memories which will last a lifetime! This will result in positive self-confidence in themselves, their community and their heritage, making what they see on their campus an invaluable experience that they will never forget!
Thank you for your consideration!
By opening the Black History program with live drumming and dancing performances, the students will have first-hand participation and be guided into a celebratory program through history, storytelling and culturally relevant experiences.
The students will learn the history and the importance of how drumming and dancing began in the African culture and how it is kept alive through live audience performances.
Storytelling through drumming and dancing will engage the students to become aware of why the different beats and movements are important to the African culture and keeping this genre alive throughout the history of mankind must be maintained.
