Teachers in our building have worked hard to create welcoming learning environments in their classrooms and designated calming spaces for student self-regulation. This project will help maintain these calm spaces by supplying our school with air filters for our air purifier in a windowless classroom, desk lamp mood lighting so student teams can work without the fluorescent overhead lights , replacement light bulbs for our floor lamps, and teacher planners as we re-organize our course offerings to better support blended learning, student learning, and the alternative school setting.
Students rely on calming spaces throughout the building to refocus, unwind, and self-regulate.
Providing them with comfortable spaces throughout the classrooms helps keep students in class, even when they hit a rough patch. In addition, this project requests neon chalk markers and magnets for our school blackboard that welcomes students, staff, and families as soon as they walk through our doors, highlighting school news, family engagement opportunities, and important student announcements.
With the materials requested for this project, our classrooms can continue to be welcoming learning environments with fresh air, student study areas, and places to de-escalate. School climate is such an important aspect to student engagement and buy-in, and these materials will be used to support the safe, inviting, and engaging climate we strive for each day.
