Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are mostly minority students and most of them come from a low-income family background. They are very active and enjoy coming to school and learning science.

They are always ready to learn new skills and explore new opportunities, but the unavailability of resources makes it hard for them to understand some of the abstract concepts that I teach; therefore, the need to explain the concepts in ways that make them real, captivating and interesting becomes imperative.

My students enjoy completing class projects that involve hands-on experiments, programming, art and research, which helps them express their understanding of chemistry concepts in their own way by creating new meanings of their discoveries.

My Project

I have very intelligent students who are always eager to complete their school work. Unfortunately, some of them are not as fortunate as others because they do not have basic personal and food supplies that they need in order to stay healthy, happy and enjoy school. They need clothing items like jeans, tracksuits and sandals to help them stay clean and ready for school. They also need healthy snacks and juice like Frito-lay classic mix variety pack, nuts and apple juice to keep them healthy.

Research shows that School-aged children with severe hunger score low on test scores and they also have a high chance of falling sick.

This group is also more likely to misbehave and create disruption in class compared with children who have not experienced hunger.

The results from several researches have been my driving force to help my students get some necessary supplies. My students need clothing items like jeans, tracksuits and sandals to help them stay clean and ready for school. They also need healthy snacks and juice to keep them healthy.
