My Students

I am the district librarian in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges they face, I am looking to help them compete with other students in our state.

I work very hard to give my students a great school environment.

We have a great middle/high school library. When we went into remote learning, last winter, I realized that I needed more online resources for my students.

My Project

"The Maine Student Book Award (MSBA) is designed to expand literary horizons of students in grades 4-8 by encouraging them to read, evaluate, and enjoy a selection of new books and to choose a statewide favorite by written ballot each spring." Students must read at least 3 books on the list to vote for their favorite book. Those votes are then sent to the state and are combined with votes from students around the state. My students get excited when the new list of MSBAs comes out. This past year I had so many students read these great books. This program encourages students to read. This program focuses on grades 4 through 8, therefore, students at both the elementary school and the middle school read these books. My students would be thrilled to have every book on the MSBA list which includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and verse. A wonderful selection for all readers!
