Children come to our program needing a second chance to succeed in their academics and to overcome personal battles. Our students are highly intelligent, motivated, and typically in need of a smaller classroom setting in order to be a successful scholar. Unfortunately, our program does not have a designated science budget so the various projects, whether science or art, are being self funded by myself.
It is my belief that all students deserve an equitable and all encompassing education.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of a budget the students are missing out on crucial educational experiences within the classroom.
My Project
Having a microscope that is able to be connected to technology within the classroom will allow the scholars to see a microscopic world that they have been taught about but have not been able to see for themselves. Having this educational tool within the classroom will allow the scholars to study cells, plants, animals, bacteria, and viruses in ways only one can only dream of. A microscope as such will allow the students to be engaged and active participants within their education.
Our program does not have a science budget and I have been slowly piecing together a science lab for my scholars over the past few years.
Students come to us looking for a second chance. They have come to us looking for care and compassion as we promote them academically and behaviorally. These students live within a socioeconomically depressed area and deserve an equitable and STEAMA driven education. An education that abounds in science, technology, engineering, artistic endeavors, mathematics, and lessons involving agriculture and biotechnology. Having a compound microscope such as this will allow my fellow colleagues and myself to bring that education full circle and assist in steering these scholars down an educational path that is suitable for them. A tool like this within the classroom will bring the world of science to them in ways one could never imagine.
