This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me give my students portable compound microscopes with variable focus to support hands-on learning that meets 7th and 8th-grade Arizona state and national science standards. These microscopes will allow students to explore life sciences, physical sciences, and environmental studies in a more interactive, immersive way.

Portable Compound Microscopes: These microscopes will allow students to explore cells, microorganisms, and natural samples throughout the classroom.

The portability fosters collaboration and inquiry-based learning that aligns with Arizona’s science standards, which emphasize hands-on investigations and developing models to explore scientific concepts.

Variable Focus Lenses: With a range of magnification, students can observe cells, tissues, and microorganisms in detail, supporting standards in life sciences such as the study of cellular structures, genetics, and ecosystems. Students will gain insights into cell theory and the relationship between structure and function, meeting state objectives for grades 7 and 8.

Hands-On, Standards-Aligned Projects:

Cell Structure and Function: Students will examine plant and animal cells, identify cellular structures, and explore their functions, addressing Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for cellular biology.

Environmental Science: Microscope observations of soil, water, and leaf samples help students understand ecosystems, biodiversity, and the impact of human activities on the environment, meeting Arizona and NGSS goals.

Microorganisms and Health: By studying bacteria and protozoa, students can investigate disease transmission and health, connecting to state standards in health and life sciences.

These microscopes will provide students with the opportunity to apply scientific methods, engage in real-world investigations, and gain a deeper understanding of key scientific principles. With your support, we can bring essential tools to our classroom that will inspire curiosity and academic growth.
