My students in a nutshell?. . .motivated, determined, and creative. However, it is difficult for my 5th grade students to realize their full potential in a small town community with limited classroom resources. With 48% of our students being economically disadvantaged, it is imperative that I provide them with opportunities for growth in the classroom.
A love of descriptive language; that is what my students have discovered this year. Although they are captivated by figurative language, and are quick to point it out in everything they read, my students still struggle to incorporate descriptive language in their own writings. With the right resources, their love of language will flourish.
With just 23 of The American Heritage Children's Thesaurus' my students will be able to energize their writing. With a larger word choice at their fingertips, the students will not only expand their personal vocabulary, but will better meet the writing traits that are evaluated on the end of year Writing Test.
When a child discovers a fierce love of learning in him or herself, it is imperative that the child be given the proper tools to further advancement in that area. Your help will strengthen my students joy of language by helping them express themselves.
