Our art students come from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history, and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create! In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives.
Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing and learning!

My Project
Students in art, just as in any classroom, work at different paces. When students finish their art, they choose enrichment art activities. After attending a few Makerspace and STEAM workshops, I set out to make these activities even more meaningful. We have built a great Makerspace that needs new and different materials. These Makerspace STEAM supplies will not only enrich their art skills, but challenge their creativity, problem-solving, and make innovative learners! Our Makerspace is also a place where students can go to take a break from a tough day or from a frustrating project. Our Makerspace is a great place for social-emotional break!
These supplies will help my students become the type of learners that 21st century schools and businesses look for in this technology-driven world.
Students will use the Legos and glasses to show their creativity. It's also a great team building activity. Students will work with other activities to enhance their problem-solving, memory, and cooperative learning skills. Last year, kids had an opportunity to diamond paint and paint by sticker - I had to request more - they were both a hit and a great calming activity.
My hope for my students is that they grow into learners, questioners, and problem solvers. In our classroom, mistakes are okay - and we figure out solutions together. I want kids to utilize their creativity and problem-solving skills even when they finish their assignments. I would like to continue to grow activities and tubs of Makerspace activities that I rotate out throughout the year. These supplies would allow me to add new learning opportunities to my growing Makerspace for the art room. Thanks for considering a donation to our project!
