This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school, they receive free or reduced priced meals, and they come from extremely challenging backgrounds. In addition to the economic limitations they face, my students are also all learning to speak and read English as their second language.

Despite all of the adversity they face, my students come to school each and every day with a smile on their face and a love for learning that you can see from the look in their eyes.

My Project

In my Kindergarten class, I strive every day to make my students' learning as hands-on and engaging as possible. For Kindergarteners, there is nothing better and more engaging than magnets! Magnetism is magic that happens right before their eyes. We currently have one box of magnetic letters, but that is only enough for half of my students to use. That is where you come in! By donating to this project, you will be providing my students with magnetic shapes, letters, words, and numbers, to keep the magnetic magic going in all subject areas all year long!

These resources would make my students' learning stick and help them identify letters, spell words, make sentences, count, identify numbers, make equations, and even put shapes together to make their very own creations!

The magnetic letters will be used each and every day during Guided Reading. When I introduce my students to a new word, they build the word with magnetic letters in a variety of ways so they remember it, they move the letters around, mix it up, fix it, and use the new word in a sentence. The magnetic words would be used each and every day during Literacy Centers, students will use them to make simple sentences with the sight words they learn.

The magnetic magic just doesn't apply to reading, I am also requesting math magnets! My students will use the magnetic pattern blocks shapes to make larger shapes, this helps them to start developing the concept of division, they begin seeing that bigger things are made up of many smaller things. The magnetic numbers and counters will help my students learn how to count and that after counting you can match that quantity with a number. The magnetic numbers will also be used to make addition and subtraction equations.
