Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My 630 students are in grades K-5. I teach 28 different classes each week. My school is a diverse mix of students from the Charlotte, NC community. We have many different nationalities represented and with all levels of ability. The one thing they all have in common is the importance of a quality education. In fact, their futures depend on it.

Despite being economically challenged, these kids are true go-getters and lovers of learning.

They embrace everything I am teaching them. They love school, everything from reading to math to art to anything technology-based. School is a safe haven for many of my students.

My Project

I have been working as the Media Coordinator in my new school for roughly 4 weeks and each week I find something new that I want to add to the library to make it better and more user-friendly.

I have requested magnetic rocks for the students to use during free time after book checkout.

I have started a small MakerSpace for the library, where kids can do (create, build, explore) hands-on fun stuff and these magnets would be a great addition to it.

I am also requesting 13 book stands so I can begin to highlight new and interesting books to students as they come in for class. Currently, I have to spread the books open and that looks messy. These book stands would make it pop.
