Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are all special needs students who attend a Title I, low income school, in a self-contained special education classroom. They are five to seven years old and are academically, socially, emotionally, and/or physically behind their same age peers.
Most of my students receive services for gross and fine motor skills and speech outside the classroom and receive extra support in the classroom for social, emotional, life, and academic skills.
They are exposed to the curriculum at a slower pace than their same age peers and still struggle at times to learn. However, despite their struggles, they never give up!
My Project
I recently discovered that my students LOVE manipulating magnetic materials at our magnet center. Currently my students have been switching back and forth between two different magnetic manipulatives at our magnet center.
The addition of these magnetic materials would allow for my students to engage even more at this center with a variety of materials that support their learning.
With these materials they could work on expanding vocabulary, problem solving, learning basic concepts, team work, turn taking, and so much more! Basic concepts include both math and literacy as well as social emotional skills! Learning through play is highly recommended and researched based and this will be an amazing way to build my student's skills without them even realizing they are learning!
