Magnetic Readers

My Project

Teachers have been teaching students how to read wrong for many years now. Teachers were misguided by publishing companies and now we know better. The science of reading has fundamentally changed how teachers teach reading.

Students have to be able to segment, blend, and manipulate phonemes to read and that is what I do as a reading intervention teacher everyday.

The magnetic tile boards let students build and blend words quickly. The phonemes are written on the same tile so the students understand it makes one sound or that it is a common spelling of certain sounds. This helps cues their brain and makes reading easier. The magnetic tiles also makes it easier for students to manipulate the phonemes in the word to make new words. While writing is important, having these magnetic tile boards will save about 7 minutes in my 30-minute lesson which is a lot of time. It will give us more time to write sentences or read decodable passages.

The science of reading has taught me so much and now that I know better, I want to do better.
