Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in a wonderful school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most of the students that attend my school are on free or reduced lunch. We also have a high percentage of students who speak a language other than English.
Teaching math is essential to my class. It is very important for students to see what I am trying to teach close up.
In my classroom I have a large magnetic dry erase board. I have discovered many wonderful math manipulatives that are large and magnetic. They would be the perfect resource to use when I am trying to teach difficult math concepts.
For instance, when I am trying to teach the value of money, I found jumbo sized money that is magnetic. This would be wonderful to show my students how to count pennies and nickels. Everyone would be able to see these giant coins.
I also have found several other magnetic math resources such as a clock, tens and ones blocks which would greatly assist my teaching.
Thank you for reading my proposal.
