My students need to understand the future of environmentally friendly transportation by learning about magnetic levitation. Through the aluminum track and DC power supply we will build our very own version of the Black Panther Maglev!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of our students are Hispanic or Latino, and 60% are socioeconomically disadvantaged. A large number of our students are first-generation college bound, and it is the school's philosophy to ensure that 100% of our students have the opportunity to continue into higher education. A large number of our student body has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) because of special needs. My students are high school freshmen, who are curious and constantly asking why. They are caring, hardworking, empathetic, imaginative, and passionate future leaders. They are thoughtful and dedicated.
My students are dreamers, explorers, and deep thinkers.
They are not used to getting handouts in life, they work hard for every experience!
My Project
Transportation has been changing dramatically. My students have been researching the future of transportation and we settled on magnetic levitation and the Hyperloop.
My students will learn how to build their very own magnetic levitation vehicles using copper coils, batteries, and magnets.
In the second phase of the project, students will learn how to use the aluminum track which will be powered on by a DC power supply. Using electricity, China and Germany are the first to create commercial magnetic levitation transportation which accelerates over 300 miles per hour. My students will learn how to make their own magnetic levitation vehicles using only foam core and magnets. After researching aerodynamics, the center of mass, magnetism and magnetic fields we will put everything to the test by racing it on the track.
Magnetic levitation is somewhat new to science and my students have quickly learned to love to play with the levitation principles. Once they can see how electricity turns a magnet into a semiconductor they will be ready for their future-technological transportation!
