Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students come from a high poverty area. Many of them having little to no schooling prior to kindergarten and are on free or reduced lunch. Many are English language learners and this is their first experience in a school environment.
What I love most is that regardless of their experiences, they all come with a thirst for knowledge and an eager to learn attitude.
In a matter of months, they learn, grow, and mature so much. It truly is remarkable to witness!
My Project
Students will work cooperatively to engineer designs with partners or small groups. These lessons will encourage students to think critically about their design, construct models, problem solve, and work together. These lessons will incorporate twenty first century standards involving STEM. Students may be challenged to construct anything from the tallest tower to a bridge that can help the three billy goats gruff cross. These magna tiles will allow me to go deeper into literature lessons by giving students an opportunity to explore the problems and come up with their own designs to solve them. It will also provide great hands on activities for all of my kindergarteners.
