Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are so full of life and LOVE music class! They are so incredibly musical and talented. We would love to bring more instruments into the music classroom. Our school has a wide range of students from Pre-K through 8th grade, and so many of them are in love with the videos of Boomwhackers and other classroom instruments I've shown them! They are so excited about these instruments.

This will give students the opportunity to perform individually and work in collaborative groups.

I love that my students have a passion to learn music and be engaged!

My Project

My students have been so excited that we finally have 17 keyboards to use in class piano! I feel so lucky that I get to share piano skills in class with so many wonderful students. Unfortunately, we have to put them on the floor because we didn't have enough funding for keyboard stands. It would be wonderful if we could prop up the keyboards, since posture is very important at the piano as well.

In addition to keyboard class, we need a drum kit for our classroom so that we can have a rock band club!

We are loving playing with our guitars in class (Thank you Donors Choose), but some of my students are so passionate about the drums I am hoping we can bring them this opportunity as well.

Also, because we are a Pre-K through 8th grade school, students of all ages love having things to shake and Boomwhackers to play with. We have already run out of all of our Boomwhacker songs - we need a new book of songs to use in class! It would be wonderful if you could bring these experiences to these children. They are so passionate about music! It is an incredible outlet for students who have been virtual during a pandemic for so long.
