Help me give my students more dramatic play with music class. This year, I will be incorporating more Orff Schulwerk lessons that involve movement, music, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to how a child plays.
I teach at a charter school that houses close to 2,000 students. I am in the head of the elementary music portion and teach music to 900 of those students. I currently do not have a classroom. I am a mobile teacher who brings music into their classroom. I utilize many different methods of music instruction such as Orff and Dalcroze. My students are wonderful learners and have a great time in my class. I love that my students are eager to learn music.
My Project
The Orff Approach is used by teachers to encourage their students to enjoy making music as individuals as well as in groups. In the Orff Approach, "all concepts are learned by ‘doing'." Students of the Orff Approach learn music by experiencing and participating in the different musical lessons and activities. Using these manipulative can allow students to show concepts through movement. These lessons stimulate not only the paraxial concepts of music like rhythm and tempo but also the aesthetic qualities of music. This method also easily incorporates methods used in evocative teaching since students learn concepts by doing instead of listening to lectures and information. With this method, students will act out concepts through play.
