My Students

My students are brilliant minds that love to collaborate and be hands on learners. Every day they strive to not only continue to be life long learners but to be better human beings and citizens in our community.

I teach math and all my students come to me in the beginning of the year saying that math is their least favorite subject and my goal is to change that by changing their perception of what math was to what it can become.

I know that this stems from a lack of knowledge about how relevant math is in their every day lives and how exciting it can be to learn the new concepts that we are going to learn together.

My goal by the end of every year is to excite my students about math and to make them feel confident in their abilities to show growth through trial and error. Everyday I real in my students by being excited for them, sharing laughable moments and having a productive struggle to guide them in their learning.

My Project

For my project, I want math manipulatives, games, and classroom supplies that will enhance my students' abilities in math. Our class needs a new projector so that all students can see the information. The projector will not only be used year after year for classes to come, but it will allow students to clearly see information so that there is not any misinformed ideas because they couldn't see the numbers.

The math manipulatives that will be purchased will be for group work and individual work that bring fun and play into math.

Dice, scales, playing cards, guide books for better lessons, geometric models, games, spinners and many more items similar to those listed will be bought for my students to enhance their learning. They will have visuals that will allow them to create a visual in their head that matches what they have in their hands.

The flexible seating and classroom supplies that will be purchased will help my students match their learning style to the comfort of the classroom. Extra whiteboards, whiteboard supplies, alternative seating arrangements, rugs, individual-choice seating and group seating will allow students a more comfortable space to take learning into their own hands. Students need a space to work and create their own learning. With the math manipulatives in hand, students can then bring their learning together and help each other learn in a safe learning community.

Last, but not least, the learning materials, such as paper, staplers, pens, notebooks, highlighters, etc. will be used for students to keep their knowledge! We will use these, along with the manipulatives, in their flexible seating, to save their knowledge for revision.
