Magic Tree House Reading Adventures!

My students need 4 copies each of 6 Magic Tree House books to reinforce vocabulary and reading comprehension.

I am a special education teacher at two schools. Both schools receive Title 1 Funds. I work with students in grades K-5 on a daily basis. I teach math, reading, writing, social skills and organization skills on a daily basis. I am a second year teacher, so my budget is tight! All of the students that I serve are in special education classes. Some students speak English as a second language.

I currently teach a reading comprehension group and recently found out that my students love the author Mary Pope Osborne. She is the author of the Magic Tree House children’s book series. We were recently able to read her novel “High Tide in Hawaii”. My students loved learning the new vocabulary and learning about a place that is very far away from North Carolina. As many teachers know, when students really like something, it’s good to run with it! My students at one school voted on the books that I have requested, meaning they will be very excited if we get adopted!

I have requested copies of some of Mary Pope Osborne’s books for my students to read. These books will be used in a guided reading setting, allowing each student to have their own book and to experience the adventure of reading! As I stated above, my students voted on these books, which lets me know that they are high-interest books that will keep their attention. The rich vocabulary that Mary Pope Osborne uses to paint a picture of her topics is especially exciting to teach. These books won’t just be used by one group of students this year. They will be used with groups for years to come, likely until they simply fall apart!

My students are taught that books are treasures, and that to discover the treasure of the book, we have to dive in and seek the treasure. Won’t you help my students to learn that the ability to read is as valuable as gold?
