My students need a complete set of the Magic Tree House books to read. To further engage them in the stories each child needs the games and puzzles book to match.
Do you remember how hard it was to read social studies books as a young child? Did you find them really interesting? The Magic Tree House books have blended history with fiction. This series is a great hook to get children interested in studying topics from the past in a fascinating way.
I teach in a low socially-economic school where I have both first and second graders within my class.
They are at a age where they truly enjoy learning, but sometimes have difficulty making a connection with what is being taught. The Magic Tree House series presents history in such an engaging way that students can't wait to find out what happens to Jack and Annie next. With the addition of the games and puzzles book for each child they will eagerly look forward to reading the next story so that they can complete their own book.
My Project
Young students have difficulty moving from picture books into chapter books. They thumb the pages and say, "This has too many words or pages." The Magic Tree House books take them on adventures with Jack and Annie, who happen to be around the same age as my students. They love the excitement of finding out what happens next. Before they know what has happened they want their own copies to read. With the addition of the resource book for each child, students will eagerly want to read the next story just so they can work in their own book. Once they finish a chapter book and discover how much excitement and adventure is in one they get hooked and usually look for the next book or a new series.
Readers are Leaders!
I look for any book or material that will inspire my students to read and become strong future leaders. The author, Mary Pope Osborne, did a remarkable job of teaching history within fiction books that children really enjoy. The complete set of Magic Tree House books will create an excitement in my classroom once they experience the first one. Once hooked it will be much easier to convince them they can read chapter books and enjoy them!
